Enid Blyton (1897-1968), 73 Christchurch Street
Whilst staying with friends, the Hunt family, at Seckford Hall in Woodbridge, Enid decided to train as a teacher.
She shared lodgings in Christchurch Street from 1916-1918 with Miss Ida Hunt who was a teacher at Ipswich High School. Enid's mother could not accept her daughter's decision to take up a teaching career and this lead to her becoming estranged from her family, although she did receive approval from her father.
Ipswich High School at that time had a trainee teacher/kindergarten section under the supervision of Miss Sophie Fear. Miss Fear had been sent to Italy to study Montessori teaching methods by the Council of the Girls' Public Day School Trust. By the end of 1918, and on completion of her teacher training course with first class passes, Enid left the school to take up a teaching post in Kent. She went on to become the well known children's writer.
